About our speaker:
Dr. Laura Jacobs has been NormaTec’s President & CEO since 1998. Under her direction, the company designs, manufactures, and distributes the NormaTec PCD, an advanced Pneumatic Compression Device, prescribed by licensed healthcare practitioners throughout the United States. The key feature of the NormaTec PCD is its patented Peristaltic Pulse pneumatic waveform, which was developed by Dr. Jacobs after more than a decade of clinical experience and research. The Peristaltic Pulse pneumatic waveform incorporates “bio-mimicry” to permit consistently excellent clinical outcomes for a wide array of peripheral vascular diseases, including venous insufficiency, chronic wounds, and lymphedema. Dr. Jacobs has also worked extensively to develop the concept of Pneumatic Medicine which details the specific clinical protocols used to treat these disorders. She offers training in Pneumatic Medicine to healthcare practitioners who are seeking an appropriate adjunct to their current medical practice. Dr. Jacobs continues to investigate the non-invasive treatment of Peripheral Vascular Diseases and is actively involved in expanding the role of Pneumatic Medicine.
Dr. Jacobs received a BSE in Chemical Engineering and a PhD in Bioengineering from the University of Pennsylvania (1982). Her dissertation concentrated on understanding the mechanism of electrical stimulation to promote osteogenesis. She later received an MD from Temple University School of Medicine (1986), and is Board-certified in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R). Before founding NormaTec, Dr. Jacobs served five years as Chief of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Cooper Hospital/University Medical Center, and was an Assistant Professor of PM&R at the Robert Wood Johnson School of Medicine (1991-96).
