Race for Rhode Island Governor
This month, SBANE will feature the winner of the Republican primary at our September breakfast event. The Republican primary will take place on Tuesday, September 15th. This year's candidates include John Robitaille and Victor Moffitt.
About John Robitaille & Victor Moffitt:
John is a native Rhode Islander and a Providence College graduate. He served his country as an Army officer for over five years on active duty. After leaving military service, John worked in employee and labor relations for nearly ten years for two large companies. During this period he negotiated scores of labor agreements across the country with many local and international unions, argued arbitration cases and settled countless grievances.
John is an entrepreneur having founded and managed a Rhode Island small business for over twenty years. He has created jobs, taken the personal financial risk of owning a small business, and managed through the maze of state and federal permitting, taxation and regulations. In 2006, John ran for state representative and in 2008, accepted a position on Governor Carcieri's staff as senior advisor for communications. John resides in Portsmouth with his wide Lynda. They have three daughters and five grand children.
Victor is a native Rhode Islander and a Johnson & Wales graduate where he received a Bachelor of Science in Accounting. Victor is a US Air Force Vietnam Veteran. Victor was elected three terms as State Representative from Coventry from 2002 to 2008 and has served on House Finance and Veteran Affairs Committees.
Victor founded Victor Moffitt & Co., Inc., a bookkeeping and tax professional service in 1973 as well as an investment fincancial serivce company, Moffitt & Associates, LLC in 2001. Prior to his businesses, Victor served as Deputy Treasurer for the town of Coventry from 1978 - 1979 and was the past President of the Pawtuxet Valley Chamber of Commerce. Victor is a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America, NRA, AARP, the US Air Force Association and the US Chess Federation.Victor and his wife Bertha have four children and eight grandchildren.
