Community Servings Winner (2009)

CS is dedicated to providing free home-delivered meals throughout eastern MA to people homebound with HIV/AIDS and other acute life-threatening illnesses, unable to shop or cook for themselves. They provide appealing, nutritious meals, reaching out to those in greatest need. Their goal is to help their clients maintain their health, dignity, integrity of families, provide nutritionally and culturally appropriate meals, and send the message that someone cares.

Cubist Pharmaceuticals, Inc. Winner (2006)

iRobot Winner (2006)

iRobot (NASDAQ: IRBT) is a provider of robots that perform dull, dirty or dangerous missions in a better way. Isis Biopolymer, Inc. (Rising Star) Winner (2010)

Isis Biopolymer, Inc. has developed an innovative approach to intelligent non-invasive transdermal drug delivery platform. IsisIQ™ is a fully programmable, single-use, “band-aid-like” active patch that controls and monitors transdermal delivery of up to three drugs per patch. Asian Task Force Against Domestic Violence Finalist (2009)

ATASK started as a grassroots volunteer effort over 20 years ago to address gaps in services for Asian battered women. A ATASK is now a 15-year old $1.8M, United Way agency with 30 staff fluent in 12 Asian languages and dialects. The agency’s mission is to provide HOPE to survivors and to prevent domestic violence in Asian families and communities. ATASK is considered a model for culturally competent services for DV survivors.

cMarket Finalist (2008)

cMarket, cMarket is a five year-old, specialty e-commerce company that has built the leading cause marketplace powered by an internet based auction platform for fundraisers. Electrolyzer Finalist (2009)

The Boston based company is a promoter of the ZigBee Alliance with an IC design center in Cambridge, England, an office in Hong Kong and sales channels worldwide.

Excel Dryer Inc. Finalist (2005)

Luminus Devices Finalist (2006)

Luminus Devices manufactures high performance light emitting devices, based on photonic lattice LED technology invented at MIT. Its PhlatLight (Photonic Lattice) product family is the only commercially available solid state light source that can cost-effectively illuminate large screen high definition televisions, with brighter colors and peerless reliability. Marine Acoustics, Inc. Finalist (2006)

Marine Acoustics, Inc. is a small, veteran owned business headquartered in Middletown, RI, with technical offices in Virginia, Connecticut, and Maryland. MAI provides broad oceanographic, acoustic, and environmental support technology in underwater acoustics, environmental sciences, and language translation technology. MAI has been involved in developing, manufacturing, and distributing the Phraselator, a handheld voice-to-voice language translator for the last six years.

Metabolix, Inc. Finalist (2007)

Metabolix, Inc., Founded in 1992, Metabolix is an innovative bioscience company providing sustainable, clean solutions to the world’s needs for plastics, fuels and chemicals. They take a systems approach, from gene to end product, to integrate sophisticated biotechnology with advanced industrial practice. In 2006, Metabolix formed Telles, a 50/50 joint venture with Archer Daniels Midland (ADM), to commercialize Mirel natural plastics.

Minerva Biotechnologies Corp. Finalist (2007)

Minerva Biotechnologies Corp., Minerva developed the first method of forming “biochip” surfaces on nanoparticles. They achieved nanometer control over the placement of each molecule on the particle surface using molecular self-assembly techniques. In business since 1999, Minerva is now at the commercialization stage. The company will make money selling nanoparticles and kits to the R&D community and leveraging its IP position for cancer drugs and diagnostics.

Nexcelom Bioscience LLC Finalist (2009)

Designer developer and manufacturer of innovative devices/instruments for cell-based assays used in cancer research and drug discovery. Based on critical input from researchers, Nexcelom’s solutions automate the time-consuming counting procedures for hundreds of different cell types, enabling scientists to focus less on the process and more on the research results. Nexcelom’s products are currently being used in the labs of leading pharmaceutical companies, bio-tech organizations, universities, and research institutions.

NMT Medical Finalist (2006)

Sionex Corporation Finalist (2010)

Sionex introduces the microAnalzyer Chemical Sensor. This instrument is capable of detecting dangerous compounds at parts per trillion levels. The microAnalzyer is shoe box sized and performs on par with floor mounted laboratory instruments costing 10 times more. This unit protects people by detecting carcinogens in drinking water, explosives and road side bombs, even disease on exhaled human breath.
