BELL (Building Educated Leaders for Life) Winner (2009)

BELL increases the academic and social achievements of over 11,000 children in low-income, urban communities. Its scientifically-proven, award-winning summer and after-school programs, innovative web-based training, and data driven approach to education produce dramatic results that have been replicated at scale as BELL expands to new cities. As testimony to this success, President Obama cited Bell in legislation as a model program.

Communispace Corporation Winner (2009)

Since 1999, Communispace has created and managed more than 300 online customer communities to help clients engage with, and listen to, customers in ways that deliver extraordinary insights, generating phenomenal business results. They enable companies to operationalize what it really means to be close to the customer throughout their organization by offering full service community capabilities—from strategic planning and design to recruitment to expert facilitation, and customer insights and analysis reporting.

Community Servings Winner (2009)

CS is dedicated to providing free home-delivered meals throughout eastern MA to people homebound with HIV/AIDS and other acute life-threatening illnesses, unable to shop or cook for themselves. They provide appealing, nutritious meals, reaching out to those in greatest need. Their goal is to help their clients maintain their health, dignity, integrity of families, provide nutritionally and culturally appropriate meals, and send the message that someone cares.

DirtGlue Enterprises Winner (2009)

DirtGlue Enterprises, Amesbury, MA, is engaged in the science of advanced soil stabilization technology. The company develops, manufactures and distributes green soil stabilization products and solutions through a worldwide network of sales and service centers for dust control, erosion control, dirt and gravel road construction, asphalt road repair and preservation. Recycled materials are an integral component of this new technology.

E Ink Corporation Winner (2009)

E Ink Corporation, the world’s leading supplier of electronic paper displays (EPDs), is profoundly impacting the future of publishing. Working with the world’s most innovative companies, E Ink has become the de facto leader in the emerging electronic book industry, most notably the Amazon Kindle & Sony Reader, and is mass producing its displays for other mobile devices and signage.

Mobile Medical International Corporation Winner (2009)

Mobile Medical International Corporation’s flagship product, the Mobile Surgery Unit™, lead the way for MMIC’s innovative manufacture of seven commercial and military product sets. Products meet US standards of care for hospital renovations, military and international readiness, FEMA disaster response, humanitarian and outreach missions. Through creative financing and innovative processes, the company is developing a multi-billion dollar market.

Partners In Health Winner (2009)

Partners In Health (PIH) is an international non-governmental organization dedicated to delivering quality healthcare to people and communities devastated by the joint burdens of poverty and disease. PIH’s work has three goals: to care for patients, to alleviate the root causes of disease, and to share lessons learned around the world.

The award-winning Bluetooth JS1Controller is marketed and sold globally through partnerships with top handset manufacturers and mobile operators

Asian Task Force Against Domestic Violence Finalist (2009)

ATASK started as a grassroots volunteer effort over 20 years ago to address gaps in services for Asian battered women. A ATASK is now a 15-year old $1.8M, United Way agency with 30 staff fluent in 12 Asian languages and dialects. The agency’s mission is to provide HOPE to survivors and to prevent domestic violence in Asian families and communities. ATASK is considered a model for culturally competent services for DV survivors.

Electrolyzer Finalist (2009)

The Electrolyzer System uses salt and electricity to transform tap water into FDA and EPA-compliant sanitizing, cleaning and degreasing solutions that are green-friendly, safer, and cost a fraction of bottled chemicals. The System changes the way hotels, hospitals and other facilities clean and sanitize rooms, public areas, and kitchens. Already in more than 70 locations, it is safer for the public and workers, and saves money.

Formulatrix Finalist (2009)

Formulatrix was established in 2002 to provide protein crystallization automation solutions. Since then, we’ve developed the next generation of liquid handlers using micro fluidic technology. We’re a privately-held, profitable, and self-funded start-up that caters to leading pharmaceutical companies and academic research institutions around the world. We strive to design the best products in the industry with support that’s second to none.

Globe Composite Solutions, Inc. Finalist (2009)

Globe Composite Solutions offers a full range of design, mold fabrication, prototyping and production services using Brandonite®, a broad family of cost effective, engineered composite materials. We also have a full-service machine shop to perform custom machining on our CNC Machines. We have a passion to meet or exceed stringent performance requirements for a wide variety of applications from military to oil field services equipment.

HDM Systems Finalist (2009)

HDM Systems designs and manufactures power electronics for transportation and military battery systems. HDM’s power conversion technology advances the use of cleaner battery-based systems for commercial trucking, replacing fuel-based technology on the road today. In addition, HDM’s battery management equipment ensures battery health and reliability in mission-critical combat situations for the military market.

IntrinsiQ Finalist (2009)

IntrinsiQ improves the quality and understanding of cancer care. Oncologists use its clinical software to treat 20,000 patients every month – safely, efficiently, and with the best course of treatment. Pharmaceutical teams use the data the software collects to direct R&D investment to meet medical need. Patients reap the greatest benefit through safer treatment, better drugs and improved outcomes.

Nexcelom Bioscience LLC Finalist (2009)

Designer developer and manufacturer of innovative devices/instruments for cell-based assays used in cancer research and drug discovery. Based on critical input from researchers, Nexcelom’s solutions automate the time-consuming counting procedures for hundreds of different cell types, enabling scientists to focus less on the process and more on the research results. Nexcelom’s products are currently being used in the labs of leading pharmaceutical companies, bio-tech organizations, universities, and research institutions.

NormaTec Finalist (2009)

NormaTec is the innovative leader in dynamic external compression technology for serious peripheral vascular conditions. Thousands of patients and, more recently, world-class athletes now use NormaTec’s patented non-invasive equipment during recovery from illness, surgery, injury, and after demanding workouts and professional competitions.

Roca Finalist (2009)

Founded in 1988, Roca is a youth development organization committed to serving the most disenfranchised and disengaged young people ages 14-24 (street/court/gang involved; drop-outs; young parents; and refugee and immigrants) in the Greater Boston area including the communities of Chelsea, Revere, East Boston, and Charlestown, MA. Roca’s mission is to help these young people move out of violence and poverty.
